Going the Distance (R)
Genre: Comedy
Cast:
Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis,
Ron Livingston
Director:
Nanette Burstein
Synopsis: Erin's wry wit and unfiltered
frankness charm newly single Garrett over beer, bar
trivia and breakfast the next morning. Their chemistry
sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects
it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and
Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City. But
when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently
become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end.
And while Garrett's friends, Box and Dan, joke about his
pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time
relationship with his cell phone, they don't like losing
their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance.
At the same time, Erin's high-strung, overprotective
married sister, Corrine, wants to keep Erin from heading
down an all-too-familiar road. But despite the opposite
coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few
unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found
something like love, and with the help of a lot of
texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might
actually go the distance.
Rating: R for sexual content including
dialogue, language throughout, some drug use and brief
nudity.

Cast:
Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph
Lundgren, Eric Roberts
Director: Sylvester Stallone
Synopsis: A group of mercenaries is hired to
infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its
ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men
realize things aren't quite as they appear, finding
themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and
betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent
life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher
challenge -- one that threatens to destroy this band of
brothers. Barney Ross is a man with nothing to lose.
Fearless and void of emotion, he is the leader, the sage
and the strategist of this tight-knit band of men who
live on the fringe. His only attachment is to his pickup
truck, his seaplane and his team of loyal modern-day
warriors. His is a true cynic who describes what he does
as ¿removing those hard to get at stains.¿ The team
behind him is made up of Lee Christmas, former SAS and a
savant with anything that has a blade; Yin Yang, a
master at close-quarter combat; Hale Caesar, who has
known Barney for ten years and is a long-barrel weapons
specialist; Toll Road, a skilled demolitions expert and
considered the intellect of the group; and Gunnar
Jensen, a combat veteran and an expert in precision
sniping who struggles with his own demons. When the
mysterious Church offers Barney a job no one else would
take, Barney and his team embark on what appears to be a
routine mission: overthrow General Gaza, the murderous
dictator of the small island country of Vilena and end
the years of death and destruction inflicted on its
people. On a reconnaissance mission to Vilena, Barney
and Christmas meet their contact Sandra, a local
freedom-fighter with a dark secret. They also come to
learn who their true enemy is: rogue ex-CIA operative
James Monroe and his henchman Paine. When things go
terribly wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave
Sandra behind, essentially giving her a death sentence.
Haunted by this failure, Barney convinces the team to
return to Vilena to rescue the hostage and finish the
job he started. And to perhaps save a soul: his own.
Rating: R for strong action and bloody
violence throughout, and for some language.

The
Passion of the Christ (R)
Genre: Art/Foreign, Drama, Biopic and
Politics/Religion
Cast:
Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci, Fabio Sartor, Maia
Morgenstern, Mattia Sbragia
Director: Mel Gibson
Synopsis: A depiction of the last twelve hours
in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his
crucifixion in Jerusalem. The story opens in the Garden
of Olives where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last
Supper. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, the controversial
Jesus--who has performed 'miracles' and has publicly
announced that he is 'the Son of God'--is arrested and
taken back within the city walls of Jerusalem. There,
the leaders of the Pharisees confront him with
accusations of blasphemy; subsequently, his trial
results with the leaders condemning him to his death.
Jesus is brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman
Governor of Palestine, for his sentencing. Pilate
listens to the accusations leveled at Jesus by the
Pharisees. Realizing that his own decision will cause
him to become embroiled in a political conflict, Pilate
defers to King Herod in deciding the matter of how to
persecute Jesus. However, Herod returns Jesus to Pilate
who, in turn, gives the crowd a choice between which
prisoner they would rather to see set free--Jesus, or
Barrabas. The crowd chooses to have Barrabas set free.
Thus, Jesus is handed over to the Roman soldiers and is
brutally flagellated. Bloody and unrecognizable, he is
brought back before Pilate who, once again, presents him
to the thirsty crowd--assuming they will see that Jesus
has been punished enough. The crowd, however, is not
satisfied. Thus, Pilate washes his hands of the entire
dilemma, ordering his men to do as the crowd wishes.
Whipped and weakened, Jesus is presented with the cross
and is ordered to carry it through the streets of
Jerusalem, all the way up to Golgotha. There, more
corporal cruelty takes place as Jesus is nailed to the
cross--suffering, he hangs there, left to die.
Initially, in his dazed suffering, Jesus is alarmed that
he has been abandoned by God his father. Eventually, he
overcomes his fear and with his last breaths, tells
Mary, his Mother, "It is accomplished." He then
beseeches God, "Into Thy hands I commend my spirit." At
the moment of his death, nature itself over-turns.
Rating: R for for sequences of graphic
violence. (original).
